NY Exhibit for Donat’s Cast-Bronze Furniture

Known for her highly textured metal pieces, French sculptor Ingrid Donat has scored a rare NY show at Barry Friedman Ltd. The selling exhibit, which features her new limited-edition cast-bronze pieces, runs through March 15
A favorite of architects and designers like Peter Marino and Robert Couturier, Donat is known both for the sensuality and tactile nature of her work and her unusual choice of materials. For example, the surface of her Commode Primitive (2007) recalls a rough, scaly reptilian skin, with a pattern of small squares highlighting the dresser’s two deep drawers. And she used parchment, which hasn’t been incorporated regularly in the making of furniture since the 1930s, as a shelf in her low, double-decker Table de chevet engrenage (2007).
Donat personally supervises the casting of her work—each piece is part of a limited edition of eight—and engraves the items, sometimes adding by hand painted upholstery or burned wood in the finishing process.
